My 2013 2.0 TDI was 100% reliable from brand new until the day we sold it back to VW with ~85k on it. My 2003 TDI is still awesome at 202k (obviously requires regular maintenance.) I just have no experience with the 3.0 engines. A local VW mechanic told me the 3.0 gassers are far more reliable and less temperamental.
