Fiat 2.8 jtd MPG. Hi All. Went to the Newbury Show last weekend with a round trip milage of 273 mostly motorway driving, with light traffic. Only managed 21 MPG is this about right. I drive with a very light right foot, cannot get van to run in 5th gear below 55 mph without loosing a lot of speed up any incline. Van is Burstner 748-2.

I believe the issue is related to the immobiliser antenna because when I removed it from the ignition barrel and pushed the key through it, the key was always recognised by the ECU. I have ordered a new antenna, so we will see what happens . (either that or the transponder is loose or on its way out).

Stored code is P0235 supercharger. As on my original post, the warning light only seems to come on when above 3200rpm in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear. If you change gear and accelerate while light is on, it seems as though it goes into limp home mode. As soon as rpm's drop below 3200rpm, the light goes out and normal driving resumes.
Another avenue for you to investigate is that on early versions of the 2.8 jtd, the injector leads were too short, leading to intermittent injection failure. As regards basic diesel engine operation, forget all about throttles. A basic turbo only pushes air into the cylinders upto the maximum boost pressure. xI4ki.
